Summer field trips 2025

Programme of Summer Field Trips 2025
In the event of adverse weather conditions, please refer to the website on the evening before the trip to see if it has been cancelled.
In the interests of reducing our carbon footprint, the protection of habitats and landscape and limited parking we encourage members to car-share.
If you require a lift or are prepared to car-share, please contact Clare Shaw 07827 867188 who will add you to the Society’s WhatsApp group. Guidelines are on the contact page.
Please bring a packed lunch for all the field trips and wear suitable clothing and footwear.
Due to the sensitive nature of the sites no dogs are allowed on any of these walks.
Members and friends attend the field trips at their own risk and the Society cannot be held responsible for any accidents or incidents.

Saturday 10th May: Feizor near Austwick for spring flowers
Meet 10am at Elaine's Tea Room. Elaine is happy for people to use the car park provided they use the tea room after the walk. They do great tea, cake and a lot more, and have toilets. If any one does not wish to use the tea room before or after the walk they should park elsewhere, but the options are limited!!
We will do a circular walk from the tea room which will last approx. 2hrs 30mins. The target species are great woodland and woodland flora: Wood Anemone, Early Purple Orchid, Cowslip, Primrose and carpets of Bluebells. Some great views of the Yorkshire Dales. Turn left off the A65 1 mile beyond the turn to Austwick – it is signed 'Feizor', but a very minor dead end road and easily missed!

Monday 9 June: Heald Brow Ladybird and Shieldbug Hunt
Meet on Hollins Lane outside Wolf House Gallery at 12.30.
GR: SD462742; w3w: cherub.clown.roosters
Road parking nearby.
We will take a short walk to Heald Brow where there are varied habitats for us to explore. Ladybirds and Shieldbugs are a great introduction to insects. They are attractive insects that tend not to run or fly off when you find them and so are easier to photograph and to try to identify. We will look for as many of them as we can find, both adults and the earlier stages. Participants will be given handouts on these two groups of insects. Finish around 15.30
